DNase Agar - 500 g

£156.52 vat excl.

£187.82 vat Inc.

Availability: Out of stock
DNase Agar is used for the differentiation of microorganisms on the basis of deoxyribonuclease activity and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. In 1956, Weckman and Catlin showed a correlation between increased DNase activity of Staphylococcus aureus and positive coagulase activity. Their research suggested DNase activity could be used to identify potentially pathogenic staphylococci. DiSalvo confirmed their results by obtaining excellent correlation between coagulase and DNase activity of staphylococci isolated from clinical specimens. Jeffries, Holtman, and Guse incorporated DNA in agar to study DNase production by bacteria and fungi. Polymerized DNA precipitates in the presence of 1N HCl, creating an opaque medium. Organisms that degrade DNA produce a clear zone around an inoculum streak. Fusillo and Weiss studied calcium requirements of staphylococci for DNase production, and concluded additional calcium was unnecessary when a complete nutritive medium was used.

Tryptone Soy Broth

£1,761.18 vat excl.

£2,113.42 vat Inc.

Availability: Out of stock
Tryptone Soy Broth (TSB) is a general-purpose broth which will support the growth of a wide range of micro-organisms and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Tryptic Soy Broth, a general purpose medium, is commonly referred to as Casein Soya Bean or Soybean- Casein Digest Broth, and abbreviated as TSB. This medium was originally developed for use without blood in determining the effectiveness of sulfonamides against pneumococci and other organisms. Clostridia and non-sporulating anaerobes grow luxuriantly in this broth when incubated under anaerobic conditions. TSB is recommended for testing bacterial contaminants in cosmetics and complies with established standards in the food industry. Enzymatic Digest of Casein and Enzymatic Digest of Soybean Meal are nitrogen sources in TSB. Dextrose is the carbon energy source that facilitates organism growth. Sodium Chloride maintains osmotic balance; Dipotassium Phosphate is a buffering agent. For Casein Soya Bean Digest Broth QC tested according to the USP/EP/JP methodology and requirements, please use NCM0004.

Campy Cefex Agar - 500 g

£196.72 vat excl.

£236.06 vat Inc.

Availability: Out of stock
Campy Cefex Agar is used for the selective isolation of Campylobacter spp in a laboratory setting. Campy Cefex Agar is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Poultry is a primary reservoir of Campylobacter spp. and may cause contamination of more than 80% of chicken carcasses. Campy Cefex Agar is described by Stern et al. This medium was formulated to provide selective isolation of cephalothin-resistant Campylobacter species such as C. jejuni and C. coli.

Palcam Agar Base

£919.79 vat excl.

£1,103.75 vat Inc.

Availability: Out of stock
Palcam Agar Base is used with supplements as a selective and differential medium for the detection and isolation of Listeria monocytogenes from food and environmental samples. Palcam Agar Base is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Palcam Agar was developed by Van Netten et al in 1989 as an improved selective differential medium for the isolation of Listeria monocytogenes from food and environmental specimens. Improved selectivity is achieved by the combination of antibiotic supplements and microaerobic incubation. The double indicator system of esculin hydrolysis and mannitol fermentation aids differentiation of Listeria spp from enterococci and staphylococci which can be confused with Listeria spp on other types of culture media. Palcam Agar is listed within Annex E of ISO 11290-1:2017 as a suitable second selective agar.

Dextrose Tryptone Agar

£860.15 vat excl.

£1,032.18 vat Inc.

Availability: Out of stock
Dextrose Tryptone Agar is used for isolation of mesophilic or thermophilic spoilage microorganisms from food and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Dextrose Tryptone Agar evolved from research by Williams, while studying the cultivation and enumeration of thermophilic bacteria caused by “flat-sour” spoilage of canned foods. In the 1930’s, the National Canners Association specified the use of Dextrose Tryptone Agar for isolating “flat sour” organisms from food products. “Flat sour” spoilage of canned foods is caused by Bacillus coagulans (Bacillus thermoacidurans). Bacterial growth results in a 0.3 – 0.5 drop in pH, while ends of the can remain flat. B. coagulans is a soil microorganism, found in canned tomato products and dairy products. Conditions favorable for organism growth can result in spoilage of food products. Dextrose Tryptone Agar can be used to isolate other food spoilage bacteria including mesophilic, aerobic spore-formers and thermophilic “flat sour” spore-formers such as B. stearothermophilus.
