Campy Cefex Agar - 500 g

£196.72 vat excl.

£236.06 vat Inc.

Availability: Out of stock
Campy Cefex Agar is used for the selective isolation of Campylobacter spp in a laboratory setting. Campy Cefex Agar is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Poultry is a primary reservoir of Campylobacter spp. and may cause contamination of more than 80% of chicken carcasses. Campy Cefex Agar is described by Stern et al. This medium was formulated to provide selective isolation of cephalothin-resistant Campylobacter species such as C. jejuni and C. coli.

Traditionally, the bud on the swab has consisted of a spun fibre such as cotton, rayon, polyester or calcium alginate wound round the end of the shaft which would be wood, plastic or wire. In recent years, novel bud materials have been introduced, such as soft cellular polyurethane foam, or flocked fibres which can give improved uptake and release of specimens. Medical Wire have extensive ranges of swabs utilising either spun fibres, cellular foam, or multifilament flock fibres, with something suitable for many applications.

Alkaline Saline Peptone Water is a medium for the enrichment of Vibrio spp. from food and water samples according to ISO 21872-1:2017 and ISO 21872-2:2007, and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Originally described by Shread, Donovan & Lee as an enrichment broth for Aeromonas spp. and identified by Cruickshank as an effective medium for the enrichment of Vibrio spp., Alkaline Saline Peptone Water uses elevated pH and salt levels to provide a favorable environment for the enrichment of Vibrio spp. Peptone provides essential vitamins, minerals, amino acids & nitrogen for growth requirements. Sodium chloride provides essential electrolytes for maintenance of the osmotic balance. Sub-culture onto Thiosulfate Citrate Bile Salts Sucrose (TCBS) Agar (NCM0052) will be required.

Lauryl Tryptose (LST) Broth is used for the detection of coliform bacteria in water and wastewater. Lauryl Tryptose Broth is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Lauryl Tryptose Broth is a selective medium for the detection of coliforms in water, dairy products and other foods. The American Public Health Authority (APHA) recommend Lauryl Tryptose Broth for the Most Probable Number Presumptive Test of coliforms in waters, effluent or sewage and as a confirmation test of lactose fermentation with gas production from milk samples and for the detection of coliforms in foods. Lauryl Tryptose Broth is prepared according to the formulation of Mallmann and Darby. Mallmann and Darby showed that tryptose at a concentration of 2% increased the early logarithmic growth phase when compared to meat peptone.

These researchers added phosphate buffers and sodium chloride, which improved gas production by "slow lactose fermenting" organisms. Sodium lauryl sulfate was incorporated as a selective agent for the inhibition of non-coliform organisms. This medium can also be used with the addition of MUG (4- methylumbelliferyl-β-D-glucuronide) according to the ISO Standard 11866-2 to give enhanced detection of Escherichia coli.

Thiosulfate Citrate Bile Salts Sucrose (TCBS) Agar is used for the selective isolation of Vibrio cholerae and other enteropathogenic vibrios according to ISO 21872-1:2017 and ISO 21872-2:2007. Thiosulfate Citrate Bile Salts Sucrose (TCBS) Agar is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. TCBS Agar is also called Vibrio Selective Agar, and prepared according to the formula of Kobayashi et al. This formula is a modification of the selective medium from Nakanishi. All pathogenic Vibrio spp., except Vibrio hollisae, will grow on TCBS Agar. This highly selective agar meets the nutritional requirements of Vibrio spp. Vibrio spp. are able to grow in media containing increased salt concentrations, and some species are halophilic. Infections have been associated with ingestion of contaminated water and consumption of contaminated shellfish or seafood. Vibrio spp. are natural inhabitants of seawater. According to ISO 21872-2, pre-incubation in Alkaline Saline Peptone Water (ASPW) (NCM0175) is required.
