Simmons Citrate Agar - 500 g

£137.55 vat excl.

£165.06 vat Inc.

Availability: Out of stock
Simmons Citrate Agar is used for the differentiation of microorganisms on the basis of citrate utilization in a laboratory setting. Simmons Citrate Agar is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Koser first developed a liquid medium for differentiating coliforms from fecal coliforms. Fecal coliforms were unable to use citrate as the sole source of carbon and inorganic ammonium salt as a sole source of nitrogen. Non-fecal coliforms, such as Enterobacter aerogenes could use citrate in such a medium with resultant alkalinity. Liquid medium had the disadvantage of appearing turbid when a large inoculum was used, although no growth had taken place. This observation led Simmons to devise a solid medium that eliminated the problem with turbidity. Simmons Citrate Agar is a modification of Koser’s medium, with the addition of bromothymol blue and 1.5% agar. Organisms able to metabolize citrate grow luxuriantly. The medium is alkalinized and changes from green to deep blue in 24 – 48 hours. Escherichia coli either do not grow at all on this medium or grow so sparsely that no change in reaction is apparent. Simmons Citrate Agar is recommended for differentiation of enteric Gram-negative bacilli from laboratory specimens, water samples, and food samples.

Our metal detectable loop tags are a self-locking tag, available in a detectable, heat resistant up to 250°C +/- 20°C, laminate material with a locked in aluminium layer, providing the metal detectability of the tag. Loop tags are produced in a premium quality tear-resistant detectable material, making them more robust than most standard labels.

The receptive coloured surface can be typed, computer printed, or handwritten. These loop tags are supplied pre-printed with fields for product, date/time, batch number and use by date, as well as two blank fields for other uses.

  • These tags are ideal for use in batch identification within food manufacturing and processing environments.
  • Colours available include: Blue, Red, Green, Yellow, White, Orange, Pink & Purple.
  • Sizes available include: Medium (40mm x 254mm) and Large (48mm x 279.4mm)

YM Broth - 500 g

£71.21 vat excl.

£85.45 vat Inc.

Availability: Out of stock
YM Broth is used for the cultivation of fungi in a laboratory setting. YM Broth is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. YM Broth is prepared according to the formulation published by Wickerham. Wickerham suggested that YM Broth, acidified to pH 3.0 – 4.0, be used as an enrichment medium for yeasts from populations also containing bacteria and molds. To favor isolation of fermentative species, add a layer of sterile paraffin oil 1 cm deep on the surface of the inoculated broth. Cultures should be incubated until growth appears, and then streaked onto YM Agar to obtain isolated yeast colonies. To isolate fermentative and oxidative strains, place acidified inoculated YM Broth on a rotary shaker for 1 to 2 days. This favors yeast recovery while preventing sporulation of molds. Media selectivity may be enhanced through acidification or addition of selective agents. YM Broth may be acidified prior to sterilization.
