Bacillus cereus Agar Base (PEMBA) - 500 g

£94.52 vat excl.

£113.42 vat Inc.

Availability: Out of stock
Bacillus Cereus Agar Base is used with Polymyxin B and Egg Yolk Emulsion for the isolation and presumptive identification of Bacillus cereus and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of human disease. Holbrook and Anderson described a highly selective and diagnostic medium (PEMBA) for the isolation and determination of Bacillus cereus from food. The medium is formulated to detect small numbers of B. cereus in the presence of large number of contaminants. This medium differentiates B. cereus from other bacteria based on resistance to polymyxin, lack of mannitol fermentation, and presence of lecithinase. B. cereus can be found on vegetables, processed foods, and in nature. B. cereus causes gastrointestinal illness if the organism is allowed to proliferate. Outbreaks of foodborne illness have been associated with boiled and cooked rice, cooked meats, and cooked vegetables.

Letheen Broth Base Modified without Tween - 500 g

£81.57 vat excl.

£97.88 vat Inc.

Availability: Out of stock
Letheen Broth Base Modified without Tween is used with Polysorbate 80 for the recovery of microorganisms from cosmetics in a laboratory setting. Letheen Broth Base Modified without Tween is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. In 1948, Weber and Black described the value of a highly nutritional solid medium containing neutralizing agents for quaternary ammonium compounds in sanitisers. The addition of Lecithin and Polysorbate 80 to Tryptone Glucose Extract (TGE) Agar resulted in a medium that effectively neutralizes quaternary ammonium compounds in testing of germicidal activity. Total neutralization of disinfectants is critical. Disinfectant residues can result in a false negative (no-growth) test. Letheen Broth Base Modified without Tween is based on the formula described in FDA Bacteriological Analytical Manual, and a modification of Letheen Broth Base. Letheen Broth Base Modified is recommended by the FDA for use in the microbiological testing of cosmetics.

Our Metal Detectable Scoops are made from a food grade polypropylene (PP). The scoops are perfect for both sampling and dispensing when working with powders and granules. During manufacturing a special food grade filler is mixed with the polypropylene. This makes the finished scoop both metal detectable and visible by X-rays. To ensure the cleanliness of the scoops they are moulded in a Class 100,000 Cleanroom.

The robust nature of these scoops means that they can give many years of service or for more demanding applications they can be used as a single use disposable product straight from the bag.

Perfringens Agar Base (TSC) is used with selective and differential supplements for the recovery of Clostridium perfringens, and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Formulated according to ISO 14189:2013, Perfringens Agar Base (TSC) is a nutritious base medium used in the preparation of SFP Agar and TSC Agar. Depending upon the formula, supplements are added to increase the selectivity of the medium. Shahidi-Ferguson Perfringens (SFP) Agar is based on the formula by Shahidi and Ferguson and incorporates the supplements, Polymyxin B Sulfate and Kanamycin. Tryptose Sulphite Cycloserine (TSC) Agar is developed with the same base as SFP Agar, with the addition of Cycloserine. If desired, Egg Yolk Emulsion can be added to either formula.

Neogen® Swab-Sampler with 1 mL Letheen Broth is a convenient and quick collection device for environmental sampling and testing over small surface areas.

Sample collection is easy with the attached swab. The vial provides ample headspace for sample addition and vortexing to release organisms from the swab. This sampling device is decontaminated through gamma irradiation for long shelf life. The Neogen® Swab-Sampler is made in the USA with globally sourced materials. The Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) is a systematic, preventive approach to food safety that identifies, evaluates, and controls hazards that are significant for food safety, is the most widely accepted food safety management protocol worldwide. Sample collection products from Neogen® are a crucial part of this approach to identify potential food-borne hazards and pinpoint where they reside. Portability, stable enrichment media, and easy-to-handle swabs and sponges are designed to test for a wide variety of potential hazards and deliver accurate results. They are engineered to safely gather, hold, and secure contents from the collection site to the lab without leaking or compromising the sample.

The primary use of Letheen Broth is to neutralise the bactericidal action of quaternary ammonium compounds and for determining the phenol coefficient of cationic surfactants. Letheen Broth is also used in hygiene swabbing practices where neutralizing quaternary ammonium compounds are required.
