Test laboratories, food production facilities and agriculture sites are just some of hundreds of industrial settings that rely on devices and instruments to give accurate results time after time. The measurements recorded need to be verified to ensure that they give the correct readings, which is why calibration is so important.

Calibration keeps processes safe and can reduce costs through the minimising of manufacturing errors. Over prolonged periods of time the accuracy of results measured by an instrument can drift due to repeated use or due to environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity. The calibration process gives you the peace of mind that readings are accurate, consistent and reliable.

When an instrument is calibrated it is done so to a known measure called a standard, and standards differ based factors including on instrument tested, industry and country of calibration. National and international bodies, such as the National Physical Laboratory, set the standards that instruments are measured to.

Depending on the instrument in question, calibrations can be carried out instruments including:
