Replace water in your water bath with these thermally efficient pellets that are easy to keep clean. It enables you to eliminate nearly all water bath cleaning and protects your water bath from drying out. Saving the need for racks, floaties and bottle weights. Bath Armor combined with our work on providing anti-bacterial properties to touchable areas on the Clifton range, such as the painted surfaces and controls, our attention has moved to the contents of the water bath itself to “the wet area”. It is recognised a conventional water bath requires regular cleaning, all wetted surfaces need treating with a surface disinfectant along with frequent changes of water reducing the occurrence of contamination.

Bath Armor aims to tackle water contamination by utilising a dry, metallic thermal media comprised of small beads instead of water. The result is a dry bath that is far less conducive to contamination than a water-filled bath.

Neogen® Swab-Sampler with 5 mL Letheen Broth is a convenient and quick collection device for environmental sampling and testing over small surface areas.

Sample collection is easy with the attached swab. The vial provides ample headspace for sample addition and vortexing to release organisms from the swab. This sampling device is decontaminated through gamma irradiation for long shelf life. The Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) approach is the most widely accepted food safety management protocol worldwide. Sample collection products from Neogen® are a crucial part of this approach to identify potential food-borne hazards and pinpoint where they reside. Portability, stable enrichment media, and easy-to-handle swabs and sponges are designed to test for a wide variety of potential hazards and deliver accurate results. They are engineered to safely gather, hold, and secure contents from the collection site to the lab without leaking or compromising the sample.

The primary use of Letheen Broth is to neutralise the bactericidal action of quaternary ammonium compounds and for determining the phenol coefficient of cationic surfactants. Letheen Broth is also used in hygiene swabbing practices where neutralising quaternary ammonium compounds are required.

Modified Tryptone-Soy Broth has emerged as the medium of choice for the enrichment of E. coli O157:H7 in red meats and is incorporated into ISO/TS 13136:2012. This medium is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Concern regarding E. coli O157:H7 has grown due to the severity of the disease syndromes caused, and the increase in foodborne infection, so too has the need to optimize methods for its efficient isolation. Symptoms start with severe stomach cramps and watery, bloody diarrhea, and a percentage of individuals infected will develop Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome (HUS) leading to acute renal failure. In a comparison of four different selective broth media, MTSB was the most productive and selective for the isolation of E. coli O157:H7. mTSB is made selective for O157:H7 by including bile salts in the dehydrated medium, and the addition of novobiocin supplement (X150).

Agar, Technical is a solidifying agent for use in preparing microbiological culture media in a laboratory setting. Agar, Technical is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Conforms to US Pharmacopeia (USP). Agar is a phycocolloid extracted from a group of red-purple algae, usually Gelidium spp. Agar was first suggested for microbiological purposes in 1881 by Fannie Hesse. By the early 1900’s, agar became the gelling agent of choice over gelatin because agar remains firm at growth temperatures for many pathogens and agar is generally resistant to a breakdown by bacterial enzymes. The use of agar in microbiological media significantly contributed to the advance of microbiology, paving the way to study pure cultures.

Agar is a gel at room temperature, remaining firm at temperatures as high as 65°C. Agar melts at approximately 85 - 91°C, a different temperature from solidification at 34 - 36°C. This property is known as hysteresis. Agar is generally resistant to shear forces; however, different agar may have different gel strengths or degrees of stiffness. Specifications for Agar, Technical include good clarity, controlled gelation temperature, controlled melting temperature, good diffusion characteristics, absence of toxic bacterial inhibitors, and relative absence of metabolically useful minerals and compounds. Agar, Technical is recommended as a general purpose agar for preparing microbiological culture media.
