The media that Gem Scientific use is designed to not only provide you with the most accurate results but visually distinctive dependent on the product type and the level of bacteria found at the original testing location

Within each box of Gem Scientific dip slides is a handy comparison chart to demonstrate what level of contamination the tested area has. This is measured by the coverage of the media by the bacteria recovered from the sample or area tested. Regular testing is recommended to ensure your regimes are being maintained and bacteria levels are as low as possible.

Storage

Store in a cool dry place (Optimum 8-15℃) and use before the expiry date on the box. Do not use slides if there is any sign of growth before opening. Slides remain usable while the agar is smooth and attached to the slide. A small amount of water may collect at the bottom of the tube. This is condensate from the agar and does not affect performance, provided the agar still fills the tray.

Disposal

Used slides should be incinerated, autoclaved or soaked in disinfectant for several hours before disposal.

TSB, Modified with 20mg Novobiocin & Acid Digest of Casein is used for the selective enrichment of enterohemorrhagic E. coli in foods in a laboratory setting. TSB Modified w/20 mg Novobiocin & Acid Digest of Casein is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. The first major outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 was in 1982, and traced to contaminated hamburgers. Other known sources of infection include sprouts, lettuce, salami, unpasteurized milk, juice and/or swimming in or drinking contaminated water. TSB, Modified w/20 mg Novobiocin & Acid Digest of Casein is used to enrich food samples suspected of having low levels of EHEC during pathogen testing. This formulation conforms to the USDA/FSIS Microbiology Laboratory Guidebook.

MWE have been manufacturing DRYSWAB™ for over 70 years. These are the fundamental tools used to collect specimens or samples for analysis, or simply to transfer materials during a diagnostic procedure.

Traditionally, the bud on the swab has consisted of a spun fibre such as cotton, rayon, polyester or calcium alginate wound round the end of the shaft which would be wood, plastic or wire. In recent years, novel bud materials have been introduced, such as soft cellular polyurethane foam, or flocked fibres which can give improved uptake and release of specimens. Medical Wire have extensive ranges of swabs utilising either spun fibres, cellular foam, or multifilament flock fibres, with something suitable for many applications.

Letheen Agar Base Modified (without Tween) is used with Tween 80 (Polysorbate 80) for the isolation of microorganisms from cosmetics in a laboratory setting. Letheen Agar Base Modified is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. In 1948, Weber and Black described the value of a highly nutritional solid medium containing neutralizing agents for quaternary ammonium compounds in sanitisers. The addition of Lecithin and Tween 80 (Polysorbate 80) to Tryptone Glucose Extract (TGE) Agar resulted in a medium that effectively neutralizes quaternary ammonium compounds in testing of germicidal activity. Total neutralization of disinfectants is critical. Disinfectant residues can result in a false negative (no-growth) test. Letheen Agar Base Modified is based on the formula described in FDA Bacteriological Analytical Manual, and a modification of Letheen Agar Base. Letheen Agar Base Modified is recommended by the FDA for use in the microbiological testing of cosmetics.
