The media that Gem Scientific use is designed to not only provide you with the most accurate results but visually distinctive dependent on the product type and the level of bacteria found at the original testing location

Within each box of Gem Scientific dip slides is a handy comparison chart to demonstrate what level of contamination the tested area has. This is measured by the coverage of the media by the bacteria recovered from the sample or area tested. Regular testing is recommended to ensure your regimes are being maintained and bacteria levels are as low as possible.

Storage

Store in a cool dry place (Optimum 8-15oC) and use before the expiry date on the box. Do not use slides if there is any sign of growth before opening. Slides remain usable while the agar is smooth and attached to the slide. A small amount of water may collect at the bottom of the tube. This is condensate from the agar and does not affect performance, provided the agar still fills the tray.

Disposal

Used slides should be incinerated, autoclaved or soaked in disinfectant for several hours before disposal.

CLED Medium (Bevis Modification) is for the cultivation of coliforms, staphylococci and streptococci, and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Bevis modified Mackey and Sandys original medium by introducing a double indicator to improve the differentiation of lactose and non-lactose fermenting coliforms, staphylococci and streptococci.     DRBC Agar (BAM) is used for the selective isolation and enumeration of yeasts and molds from foods in a laboratory setting. DRBC Agar is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. DRBC Agar (BAM) is based on Dichloran Rose Bengal Chlortetracycline (DRBC) Agar formula described by King, Hocking, and Pitt. DRBC Agar conforms with APHA guidelines for the mycological examination of foods containing chloramphenicol rather than chlortetracycline as proposed by King, Hocking, and Pitt. Tetrathionate Broth Base, Hajna, is recommended in the Compendium of Methods for the Microbiological Examination of Foods and the FDA/BAM for the Environmental Sampling and Detection of Salmonella Enteritidis (SE) in Poultry Houses and whole eggs.. Salmonella organisms may be present but injured in food-processing procedures, which include exposure to low temperatures, sub-marginal heat, drying, radiation, preservative, and sanitisers. Numerous reported cases of Salmonella enteritidis (SE) infections are associated with contaminated shell eggs. SE infections can be very serious and symptoms can include diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramps, headache, nausea and vomiting. Eggs can become contaminated on the farm because a laying hen can become infected with SE and pass the bacteria into the egg before it is laid.
