Brilliant Green Agar with Sulfapyridine - 500 g

£99.00 vat excl.

£118.80 vat Inc.

Availability: Out of stock
Brilliant Green Agar w/ Sulfapyridine is used for the selective enrichment of Salmonella spp. in a laboratory setting. Brilliant Green Agar w/ Sulfapyridine is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Brilliant Green Agar was first described by Kristensen et al and later modified by Kauffmann. The outstanding selectivity of this medium permits the use of moderately heavy inocula evenly distributed over the surface. The addition of sulfonamides into Brilliant Green Agar further inhibits Escherichia coli and Proteus spp. Osborne and Stokes used 0.1% Sodium Sulfapyridine to enhance the recovery of Salmonella from whole egg and egg yolk.

MacConkey Broth Purple is used for the detection and enumeration of fecal coliforms (37°C) and E. coli (44°C). This medium is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. The replacement of neutral red used in the original formulation by bromocresol purple makes the color change caused by acid producing organisms easier to read.

Tetrathionate (TT) Broth Base, Hajna is used as a selective enrichment for the cultivation of Salmonella species (except S. typhi) from samples in a laboratory setting. Tetrathionate (TT) Broth Base, Hajna is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Tetrathionate Broth Base, Hajna, is recommended in the Compendium of Methods for the Microbiological Examination of Foods and the FDA/BAM for the Environmental Sampling and Detection of Salmonella Enteritidis (SE) in Poultry Houses and whole eggs.. Salmonella organisms may be present but injured in food-processing procedures, which include exposure to low temperatures, sub-marginal heat, drying, radiation, preservative, and sanitisers. Numerous reported cases of Salmonella enteritidis (SE) infections are associated with contaminated shell eggs. SE infections can be very serious and symptoms can include diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramps, headache, nausea and vomiting. Eggs can become contaminated on the farm because a laying hen can become infected with SE and pass the bacteria into the egg before it is laid. If the egg is not refrigerated, the bacteria can grow inside the uncracked, whole egg. Tetrathionate Broth Base, Hajna was developed by Hajna and Damon.

WL Nutrient Agar

£340.62 vat excl.

£408.74 vat Inc.

Availability: Out of stock
W-L Nutrient Agar is used for the cultivation of yeasts, molds, and bacteria encountered in brewing and industrial fermentations. W-L Nutrient Agar is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. W-L Nutrient Medium was developed by Green and Gray while studying various fermentation processes. An exhaustive study examining methods of fermentation control procedures in worts, beers, liquid yeasts and similar fermentation products led to the development of W-L Nutrient Medium. At a pH of 5.5, counts of viable baker’s yeast will grow on W-L Nutrient Medium. W-L Nutrient Medium is also referred to as “Wallerstein Laboratory Medium”.

APT Agar - 500 g

£105.27 vat excl.

£126.32 vat Inc.

Availability: Out of stock
APT Agar is used for the cultivation of heterofermentative lactobacilli in a laboratory setting. APT Agar is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Evans and Niven investigated the cultivation of heterofermentative lactobacilli, causing the faded or green discoloration of cured meat products. Deibel, Evans, and Niven tested thiamine-requiring bacteria, specifically Lactobacillus viridescens. Their formulations led to the development of APT Agar. Lactic acid bacteria, a group of acid-producing bacteria, include the genera Streptococcus, Leuconostoc, Pediococcus, and Lactobacillus. These organisms are widespread in nature, associated with bacterial spoilage of foods including dairy products, meat, and vegetables. APT Agar is used for cultivating heterofermentative lactic acid bacteria from food products.

Letheen Broth with Tween, Modified is used for the recovery of microorganisms from cosmetics in a laboratory setting and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. In 1948, Weber and Black described the value of a highly nutritional solid medium containing neutralizing agents for quaternary ammonium compounds in sanitisers. The addition of Lecithin and Polysorbate 80 to Tryptone Glucose Extract (TGE) Agar resulted in a medium that effectively neutralizes quaternary ammonium compounds in testing of germicidal activity. Total neutralization of disinfectants is critical as disinfectant residues can result in a false negative (no-growth) test result. Letheen Broth with Tween, Modified is based on the formula described in FDA Bacteriological Analytical Manual, and a modification of Letheen Broth Base. This medium is recommended by the FDA for use in the microbiological testing of cosmetics. Letheen Broth with Tween, Modified has Polysorbate 80 (Tween) incorporated into the medium.

Soy Peptone

£854.50 vat excl.

£1,025.40 vat Inc.

Availability: Out of stock
Soy Peptone is for use in preparing microbiological culture media in a laboratory setting, and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Soy peptone is a rich source of nutrients with a high carbohydrate content. Most organisms will grow rapidly in this peptone but some bacteria will produce high levels of acid leading to auto-sterilization unless an adequate buffering system is incorporated.

Triple Sugar Iron (TSI) Agar is used for the differentiation of microorganisms on the basis of dextrose, lactose, and sucrose fermentation and hydrogen sulfide production. Triple Sugar Iron (TSI) Agar is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. This is a modification of the Krumwiede and Kohn medium of 1917 which differentiates some of the Enterobacteriaceae on the basis of four reactions; fermentation of lactose, glucose and sucrose and H2S production. This medium should be used in conjunction with a urease test to eliminate Proteus spp. when screening for Salmonella spp.
