M-Green Yeast and Fungi Broth is used for the detection of fungi in beverages in a laboratory setting. M-Green Yeast and Fungi Broth is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. M-Green Yeast and Fungi Broth is a relatively more complex formula compared to other media used for isolation of fungi and yeast. This formulation is rich in nutrients which allows for excellent fungal growth. Bacterial growth is inhibited by an acid pH. Fungi have been found in potable water and on the inner surface of distribution system pipes. They can survive water treatment or they enter the system after treatment and remain viable.

Listeria Enrichment Broth is used for selective enrichment of Listeria spp and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Listeria monocytogenes, first described in 1926 by Murray, Webb, and Swann, is an extensive problem in public health and food industries. This organism has the ability to cause human illness and death, particularly in immunocompromised individuals and pregnant women. Epidemiological evidence from outbreaks of listeriosis has indicated that the principle route of transmission is via consumption of foodstuffs contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Implicated vehicles of transmission include turkey frankfurters, coleslaw, pasteurized milk, Mexican style cheese, and pate. Listeria spp. are ubiquitous in nature, being present in a wide range of unprocessed foods as well as in soil, sewage, and river water. Listeria Enrichment Broth is based on the formula developed by Lovett et al. in which Tryptic Soy Broth is supplemented with Yeast Extract for optimum growth. Listeria spp. grow over a pH range of 5.0 - 9.6, and survive in food products with pH levels outside these parameters. Listeria spp. are microaerophilic, Gram-positive, asporogenous, non-encapsulated, non-branching, short, motile rods. Motility is pronounced at 20°C. Identification of Listeria is based on successful isolation of the organism, biochemical characterization, and serological confirmation.

Yeast & Mold Agar

£808.37 vat excl.

£970.04 vat Inc.

Availability: Out of stock
Yeast and Mold Agar is recommended for the isolation and maintenance of yeasts and molds. This medium can also be used for the detection of wild yeasts in beer. Yeast and Mold Agar is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Yeast and Mold Agar is prepared according to the formulation published by Wickerham and was formulated for the selective isolation of yeasts from mixed cultures containing bacteria and molds. The selectivity of this medium may be enhanced through acidification or through addition of selective agents. Yeast and Mold Agar should be sterilized without pH adjustment and sterile acid added to the medium cooled to 45 - 50°C. Acidified Yeast and Mold Agar should not be heated. Antibiotics may be aseptically added to sterile media. Other fungistatic materials may also be added to Yeast and Mold Agar to eliminate molds and permit enumeration of yeasts to mixed populations.

WL Nutrient Agar

W-L Nutrient Agar is used for the cultivation of yeasts, molds, and bacteria encountered in brewing and industrial fermentations. W-L Nutrient Agar is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. W-L Nutrient Medium was developed by Green and Gray while studying various fermentation processes. An exhaustive study examining methods of fermentation control procedures in worts, beers, liquid yeasts and similar fermentation products led to the development of W-L Nutrient Medium. At a pH of 5.5, counts of viable baker’s yeast will grow on W-L Nutrient Medium. W-L Nutrient Medium is also referred to as “Wallerstein Laboratory Medium”.

Buffered Sodium Chloride-Peptone Broth pH 7.0 is the diluent specified by the Harmonized Pharmacopoeia for the microbiological examination of non-sterile products andconforms to Harmonized USP/EP/JP Requirements in a laboratory setting. Buffered Sodium Chloride-Peptone Broth pH 7.0 is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Buffered Sodium Chloride-Peptone Broth pH 7.0 is recommended by the Harmonized Pharmacopoeia (USP/EP/JP) for the microbiological examination of non-sterile products. The low level of peptone lessens the physiological shock experienced by microorganism when suspended in a diluent. The dual phosphate components create a buffered environment and sodium chloride maintains the osmotic balance.

Campy Blood-Free Selective Medium (Modified CCDA) - 500 g

£99.00 vat excl.

£118.80 vat Inc.

Availability: Out of stock
Campy Blood-Free Selective Medium (CCDA) is used with cefoperazone for the selective isolation of Campylobacter spp. in a laboratory setting. Campy Blood-Free Selective Medium (CCDA) is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans Campy Blood-Free Selective Medium (CCDA) was described by Bolton et al. This medium was formulated to replace blood with charcoal, ferrous sulfate, and sodium pyruvate. To improve selectivity, cefoperazone replaced cephazolin in the original formulation. Bolton et al recommended incubating inoculated plates at 37°C to improve isolation rates. Yeast and fungal contaminants are inhibited with the addition of amphotericin B. Campy Blood- Free Selective Medium (CCDA) is recommended for food testing.
