Case Study: Improving implementation success rates for IVF clinics with Geotech G100

Improving clinical pregnancy and implementation success rates for IVF clinics with Geotech G100 Incubator Analyser

The accuracy of incubator gases within an IVF laboratory plays a major role in the success of IVF programs in any fertility clinic today.  Therefore, choosing the right equipment is key. Leading Atlanta, US-based IVF clinic, Reproductive Biology Associates’ (RBA) decision to choose a market-leading solution from Geotech, the G100 portable CO2 analyser has improved its overall success rates for clinical pregnancy and implementation. Given the crucial role that the incubator plays in the IVF process, the conditions within the incubator in an IVF laboratory must be optimal at all times.  An accurate O2 reading is vital as it increases the likelihood of a successful assisted reproductive treatment.  Realising this, RBA started their journey to find a suitable CO2 analyser in 2003. During this period, the clinic tried many products but none were suitable.  Previous analysers were usually either too bulky, took too long to register a reading or the measurements varied too much for them to be reliable.  There were also risks associated with toxicity and contamination to the incubator environment due to the constant need to open the incubators in order to take a reading. Many years later, they were advised of a new CO2 monitoring analyser by a technician working for Unisense, the company that developed the EmbryoScope.  This product was the Geotech’s G100 portable analyser.  The clinic decided to start using the G100 in all of its incubators and has been very happy with its performance in boosting overall success rates. RBA Clinical Embryologist, Thomas Elliott, said: “By moving to the digital portable method with the G100, the clinic has been able to eliminate the risks of toxicity and inaccuracy from its previous CO2 analysers.  Ultimately, we are highly satisfied with the G100 as not only is it portable, it is also fast and easy to use, and its measurements are reproducible.  The G100 can also be used to measure O2 levels, which is an added advantage for us.”

Improved results and greater confidence for clinicians

Other key benefits and features of the G100 include:
  • Built-in gas moisture removal that protects the G100 from water ingress that could damage the analyser
  • Dual temperature probes of 0 to 50°C to help users adjust the temperature to stabilise conditions within their incubator for better temperature variation analysis, thus reducing potential errors.
Embryos are sensitive to contaminants such as volatile organic compounds (VOC) and chemically active compounds (CAC), at the molecular level.  Therefore, appropriate screening and quality control of air, media and any equipment that comes in contact with the embryos plays important role. This will ultimately lead to improved results and greater confidence for clinicians and patients. By using the G100 to monitor incubator conditions, embryologists and medical professionals can rest assured they are maximising the chances of success and subsequently boosting the reputation and credibility of their IVF facility.
