Healthcare environments are tackling new challenges with Hygiena EnSURE Touch

Would having a traceable, hygiene monitoring system help give your residents, your staff and you peace of mind?

Maintaining high cleaning levels at the forefront of everyone’s minds, especially in care homes, nursing, and healthcare settings. Through the implementation of an ATP hygiene monitoring system staff in care environments can maintain cost-effective cleaning protocols and ensure cleanliness to keep residents, visitors, and staff safe.

ATP hygiene monitoring can be used anywhere cleanliness matters and is an effective tool for:

  • Monitoring quality standards and reporting
  • Identifying areas for improvement
  • Training and encouragement
  • Evidence of due diligence

Employing the use of hygiene monitoring systems in care facilities has been shown to reduced additional cleaning costs, reduced the rate of environmental isolation and improved quality standards while identifying areas for improvement.

What is ATP Hygiene Monitoring?

UltraSNAP Surface Swabs are used with the EnSURE Touch to test hygiene levels

Hygiena EnSURE™ Touch ATP Hygiene Monitoring helps organisations achieve optimal standardised cleaning levels. Using bioluminescence technology to identify and measure adenosine triphosphate, commonly known as ATP, this system indicates the presence of bioorganic material, including bacteria. This measurement objectively determines if a surface has been cleaned properly and is safe for use.

EnSURE™ Touch is a handheld device that rapidly verifies the cleanliness of a surface in just 10 seconds. It measures organic residue on surfaces via bioluminescence and adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which exists in all organic matter - mucus, saliva, any bodily fluids, food residue. The result is a numerical value (in relative light units, RLUs) representing how much contamination is on a surface, which is then translated to Pass-Caution-Fail indicators which can be customized for your operation.

Where Can It Be Used?

Any surface which has a high touch frequency is a good place to start with your hygiene monitoring plan. Common areas for testing include:

  • Doorknobs/push plates
  • Light switch
  • Bedside table
  • Toilet
  • Shower
  • Light switch
  • Sink
  • Door handles
  • Elevator buttons
  • Information desk
  • Dining areas
  • IV pump control and poles
  • Touchscreens
  • Ventilator controls
  • Countertops
  • Telephones
  • Handrails
  • Remote controls
  • Bed control
  • Bed rail

Product Capability Information

It is important to understand the limitations of ATP hygiene monitoring systems:

  • ATP meters do not detect viruses
  • Hygiena does not produce a virus test
  • Performing ATP Cleaning Verification does not guarantee removal of viruses on surfaces but it does effectively monitor and improve hygiene processes which will significantly reduce the risk of bacterial and viral presence
  • ATP Cleaning Verification should be used in conjunction with Public Health and NHS recommendations and guidelines
