3M Launch New Lactic Acid Bacteria Petrifilm Count Plate

Petrifilm™ Lactic Acid Bacteria Count PlatesLactic acid bacteria are used in food processing industries, primarily in the production of fermented dairy products but it can also be used for pickling vegetables, winemaking and curing meat and fish. But when the bacteria are in low oxygen, low temperature and acidic conditions it can cause spoilage, discolouration and bloated packages. Lactic acid bacteria can also affect odours, flavours and textures of food which can lead to customer dissatisfaction and trigger recalls. By introducing the new Petrifilm™ Lactic Acid Bacteria Count Plates, 3M™ has streamlined a complicated, labour intensive testing method into an easy, all-in-one solution to help food processors efficiently test bacteria levels in food.

Oxygen-Scavenging Technology

For the first time ever, the 3M Petrifilm Lactic Acid Bacteria Count Plate combines oxygen-scavenging technology and oxygen-barrier films to create a self-contained anaerobic environment. Now food processors and testing laboratories can get true, accurate anaerobic results using aerobic incubation conditions, providing enhanced recovery of lactic acid bacteria within 48 hours. In contrast to traditional methods, 3M’s advanced technology can be used to test a wide range of foods and environmental surfaces. The new petrifilm plates will be especially valuable for manufacturers of meat, fish and poultry products, processed foods, produce dairy products, and various dressings and sauces. If the test determines lactic acid bacteria levels are unacceptable, food processors may want to adjust their processing conditions or intensify cleaning and sanitation. For more information about the 3M Petrifilm Count Plates, our team will be more than happy to help and advise you.
